Cleaning Cabinet Makeover

How I transformed a dark and underused cabinet into a bright space to hold all of my cleaning supplies!
Junk, junk, and more junk that I never use!
I used to keep all of my cleaning supplies under the sink in my main bathroom, since no one really uses it. It was a deep dark cabinet and things were always getting lost. Then I discovered that I really wasn't using the cabinets in my dining room built-ins to their full potential. If you want to see a mega makeover, you should see what my dining room built-ins and fireplace looked like years ago before I made them over!

So I cleaned them out, primed and painting them a bright semi-gloss white (that I already had). I think I did three coats of primer and two coats of paint, making sure to give each coat a full 24 hours to dry. I waited two days after the last coat before the final step. If you're thinking of painting cabinets or furniture in your house, you'd love my post on my favorite primers and paints for cabinetry, fireplaces and furniture.
Then I lined the back wall in a striped gift paper that I found on clearance for $3! It took a bit of finessing and different tools to get it just right. You can read all of the details on my blog (link is at bottom of this article).
Voila! I should mention cabinet interiors are almost never exactly set on 90 degree right angles. It's not a perfect square/rectangle. So give yourself a buffer to cut as you're installing the paper.
Even with the black stripe background, it's so much easier to see things in this cabinet. I love that it's centrally located in my house where things are easy to grab, and that it's hidden and no one has any idea that there are paper towels and window cleaner in there!
