I have a very small kitchen, with limited storage space. I also don't have the money to do a big budget remodel. So, I got creative with some budget-friendly updates and clever storage tricks.
BEFORE: My vintage 1980's kitchen
The pink countertops and funky island were screaming for a remodel, but I didn't have the money to do much.
AFTER: Budget-friendly update
That funky island was ripped out as soon as the house sale closed. I reused the drawers by putting them between the refrigerator and island. The pink countertop was replaced with a granite-look laminate.

You can see the whole update here:

Even though it's updated, the kitchen is still pretty small. Here are a few ways I'm making the best use of the space I have.
Installed Rev-a-Shelf storage
If you have a small kitchen, and you haven't heard of Rev-a-Shelf, you should. They have a range of clever products to modify your existing shelves, drawers, and cabinets. (I'm not even a paid spokesperson.)

These tip out trays for the otherwise unused drawer fronts under the sink are great for hiding ugly sponges and the drain plug, while keeping them handy.
Tubs for deep cabinets
You know that corner cabinet next to the sink, where stuff goes in never to be seen again?

You can make that space useful again by putting items into a plastic tub. Then you can just slide the whole thing out at once to grab what you need. No more reaching back into that dark corner.
Bins in the freezer
I also like to use plastic bins to keep my freezer more organized. By grouping things into bins, they don't topple all over the place. I can just pull out the whole "frozen vegetables" bin, and get what I'm looking for. It's a very efficient way to use the space.
Sliding utensil tray
This is my favorite kitchen storage tip, but I discovered it by accident. My utensil tray was just slightly too big to fit inside the drawer. Instead, the lip of the tray rests on the edges of the drawer.

But it's like magic! This doubles the amount of storage space in the drawer. I can fill the tray, and then slide it back and use the storage space underneath. You've got to try this!
