I needed a new island bench, and I thought, lets make it out of concrete. It came out quite well I think.
Check out the video, it has way more details, and shows the whole progress
Some pretty shots first.
So there is a few layers of concrete going on in here, but it's as follows:
1 part GP cement.
1 part Dolomite Sand
1/10 part Chopped strand Fiberglass
1/10 part Builders Lime
1/30 Bondcrete
1kg Black Oxide Colour
The second layer in between the two is a mixture of vermiculite and cement, to keep weight down
I set it in two pieces, making sure it was square.
Got tig welding up the supports to go in the middle.
And casting the bottom piece.
I ground off the initial layers with a coarse concrete cutting disc.
Then sanded it all smooth with concrete/stone polishing pads
And went through the grits.
Then added a layer of concrete sealant.
And I built and sprayed up a shiny center piece to go in the middle.
Suggested materials:

  • Mdf   (bunnings)
