Creating a Crackle Finish
Do you dream of aged crackle goodness on furniture and decor? Here’s a how-to on creating that look yourself!
Whatever you’re painting, whether it’s a picture frame, cabinet or piece of furniture, make sure it has complete coverage, 2-3 coats should be enough depending on the look you’re going for.

•Let your piece completely dry before moving to the next step!
Next up, Elmer’s glue!
Just pour some on a paper plate and use a chip brush. Since it’s going to be ruined, no reason to use a good brush!
Apply a medium to thick layer of glue with your chip brush.
Spread it evenly and work quickly!

A hair dryer will help speed up the process.
Lightly go over the glue for a few seconds to make it tacky.
•Do Not let the glue dry!
With light, feather like brush strokes apply another coat of paint. (Do not dip your brush into your paint container, the glue will contaminate your paint, it’s best to put it on a plate or bowl)
Make sure to have enough paint on your brush and move quickly!!
Try to only make one swipe across. Back and forth motions with cause the glue to gunk up.
(I know it looks like I’m applying pressure, but I’m barely touching the piece with the brush)
Using a hair dryer not only speed up the crackling process, you’ll be able to see where you need to repeat the steps in case you missed any spots.
