DIY Paint Your Ugly Counter Top to Look Like Granite For $100!

If you've got an ugly counter top like we did, change it up instead of replacing it. Save hundreds of dollars and do like we did....paint it to look like granite. It sure beats the lime green it used to be!
Pretty bright, that's for sure. We didn't live with this color for long before realizing we needed to change it up.

Because the counter was curved, we would have to order a custom counter. That was too expensive for us, so we decided on a paint job.
We removed the stove top and the sink, and did the prep work needed to get it ready for painting.
I know this isn't a very good shot, but it's all we have. This is after one coat of the black primer included in the kit we bought. They have several different colors and finishes.

Then I sponged on the other paints in the kit; it's starting to come together. This isn't a hard project but it did take us a few days. Mostly for paint drying.

All the steps to this project can be found over on Fix up that Ugly Counter on our site.
Here's the finished kitchen. The counter tops are all done and they are really durable.

We did this project two years ago and we haven't had a mark or scuff on this paint project at all.
Another view of the kitchen...

A nice thing about a project like this is that NO two counter tops will ever be the same. It's up to you to figure out the colors and the intensity of those colors.

This is a great unique and budget friendly project to update your counters.
