Floral Wood Magazine Rack Makeover

I can never pass up solid wood finds especially when they are raw wood and begging to be given a fabulous new look. This beauty was hand crafted by some handyman that I scored at our local thrift store.

To be sure the surface is free of any dust fingerprints etc it was scrubbed with Dixie Belle white lightning cleaner then rinsed well and left to dry.

I chose this pretty green called cactus, new in the  Dixie Belle silk mineral paint line. I brushed it on with one of my favorite Dixie Belle synthetic brushes ;the 2" mini. It is a great size to get inside all the tight areas.

Two coats were applied about 4 hours apart.

For the sides I wanted to add a soft and subtle pattern. I chose the basket weave  Dixie Belle stencil.

Umber; a soft brown in the  Dixie Belle silk mineral paint line was brushed on with a stencil brush. I used painters tape on the edges under the stencil to keep edges clean.

And this is the pattern once the stencil lifts off. The entire magazine rack was lightly sanded with a  Dixie Belle sanding sponge to give the paint a buttery smooth feel and give the stencil a distressed look.

To add even more character to this piece the flower child  Dixie Belle transfer was selected.

Once you have decided remove the white backing, press in place and burnish the design with the stick included lifting the clear top sheet as you go.

To seal the transfers in place I applied clear  Dixie Belle's best dang wax using my dedicated  Dixie Belle best dang brush and add age I brushed on brown  Dixie Belle's best dang wax with a dedicated  Dixie Belle premium chip brush perfect to get in nooks and crannies.
