Freshening up an Old Hoosier for Gardening Storage.

My back porch Hoosier cabinet had deteriorated enough that I was worried it was going to become unusable. So I set out to freshen it up a bit and chase off the spiders. More info and pictures are available in the blog post.
A couple of summers ago I bought this Hoosier cabinet at a garage sale. It was covered with peeling white paint. I scraped off all the peeling paint and left it as it was and put it on the back porch. I loved the colors.
Over time all the white paint and several layers of green paint fell off. I got tired of sweeping up paint so I did a final scraping and got it ready for paint.
I painted it with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Lucketts Green and added some new knobs then dry brushed a little paint on them.
After using hemp oil and wax I covered the entire piece inside and out with 2 coats of Modern Masters Exterior Dead Flat Varnish. The paint store guy promised me that this wouldn't yellow.
I use this cabinet to store small garden stuff, tools and garden shoes.
I still need to replace the backing for the upper cabinet. It is water damaged and doesn't hold the cabinet square any longer - thus the crooked doors on the cabinet. I am really liking the finish though.

Lisa House on Apr 26, 2015I have my grandmothers...mine has doors that slide into the cabinet when open, these are in the area that is open on yours, between the top and bottom pieces. The metal "shelf" pulls out when in use so my cabinet is the highlight of my dining room and I use it as a sideboard during holiday meals. You did a fabulous job, enjoy it!
