Give Your Old Buffet a New Life
I purchased this buffet on my local Facebook marketplace with the goal of refinishing it. I knew there will be gorgeous wood grain underneath the old varnish, so I got to sanding.
First I took off the doors and started sanding. I sanded the whole dresser including the drawers as well as the top.
I used 120, 220, 320 grit sand paper.
once everything was sanded it was time to paint. I always like to give my dressers that unique touch that makes them one of a kind. I taped out my design with painters tape and used gold paint to do the lines.
I knew I wanted to add legs to this buffet to make it more modern. I took it off of it's base and ordered 4 inch furniture legs from Amazon.
I used black furniture paint to enhance the beautiful wood grain that emerged after sanding. This was my second time using valspar furniture paint and I love it. I applied 2 coats with a brush and barely any brush strokes. Once everything was dry I applied a satin policrylic clear coat over the whole piece and all done. I Also swapped out the wood hardware to some brass hardware from Amazon. I hope you enjoyed this makeover. To see more of my flips follow me on Instagram @andreapalmai

I am not usually a big fan of mid-century modern but your buffet is absolutely lovely!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Such beautiful wood and elegant finish. I have 2 questions, how did you determine it was wood and not veneer, and do you happen to know what kind of wood?
Just GORGEOUS......1 of my favorite makeovers I've seen posted..EVER !!!
GREAT JOB.
This is really just SO lovely! Was the satin polycrylic directly on the wood? Did you clean the wood with anything or perk up the wood with stain?
