How to Pimp up an Old Chair to a Patchwork Must Have!
I wanted to revamp and change the colour of this old farmhouse wooden chair into a loved again piece of furniture so took the opportunity to use up some old scraps of material and chalk paints left from other projects.
I decided to paint the legs and spindles with a chalk paint in charcoal black colour. It’s an old tin that’s been laying around for years and I mix it well before coating with an artists brush.
I leave till it’s dry and then begin planning my fabric squares and design. These are cotton pieces that are very close weave and thin. I pull together a orange & blue colour palette and mix of patterns to create contrast.
I Lay them out in various positions until I am happy. Then set about to glue down with Mod Podge.
I am using a version of Mod Podge that is durable and for outdoor use too. I find with seats it helps with creating a stronger usable surface .
I continue to stick down the patterns and create a nice balance of designs and colours and also the back rest part of the chair .
Especially important is trying to curl and stick the fabric under the seat edges and sticking and cutting to make it as neat and tidy as possible. When I am finished and the patterns are all dry sealed and it’s a wow what a transformation!

do you put any type of coating over it after it is finished, or just the modge podge?
I’ve read that the outdoor type of Mod Podge can take several days and even weeks before it is no longer sticky. How long did it take to dry for your project?
Did you by apply them MP then lay down the fabric and then back over it with more MP? I read it twice and you didn’t indicate. You used an a tiny artist brush to paint all the spindles and legs? Wow! That must have taken forever.
