Hutch Makeover - One Piece of Furniture Becomes Two New Pieces

I picked up this hutch on craigslist for $50. I knew I didn't want to use it as is because I just don't have the space but it was too good of a deal to pass up.
Since it came in two pieces, it turned out it was better to use each separately than as the full hutch.  We started with the bottom part or buffet.
The top of the buffet was somewhat of a mess with scratches and marks from where the hutch part sat on it. It didn’t really matter because I knew I wanted to stain it anyway. I used paint stripper and took off the top layer of paint. For some reason, I don’t have a picture of that process but here it is with the stain.
I was originally going to use it for a TV cabinet but now I think we are going to use it as a vanity in our master bath. Oooh, another project. :)

So next was the hutch part. We'll be using it as a book shelf so we had to add a base. We used a pre-cut MDF board we got at Home Depot. I primed it before we attached it to the bottom.
I gave the new shelf and legs a coat of primer, we screwed it to the bottom and then we added the brackets for the feet. We added small bun feet so it wouldn't be too tall.
So what used to be one HUGE piece is now two pieces that have a completely different use for different spaces.

I too agree with all of the comments. I just seen this today & you did it in 2018. But I too was still wondering how the bathroom vanity turned out?

It looked great with the stained top & painted bottom. But I was also wondering about the top that you stripped, It looked so beautiful (I am a natural wood work lover) do you think that the rest of it would have looked just as beautiful as the top did?

I hope that you get this comment & can respond with your option.
