Jewelry Armoire Makeover

My daughter was starting to accumulate copious amounts of tiny little Barbie "things" ... so many. I had an old Jewelry Armoire that really didn't serve me any purpose and thought it would hold all that tiny toy stuff perfect! Easy to place to put them away and for her access it. Since it was going in my 3 year old's room I let her take the reigns on the redesign. So fun.

the first step was to give the whole piece a good sanding and cleaning. I started with 100 grit and worked all the way up to 320. I made sure to clean really well into all of those details so that the paint could stick well.

The piece was not solid wood and I'm not sure what the manufacturer used to make it such a dark color. I wasn't going to chance anything coming through since our plan was bright colors. I used a good primer to make sure all the stains stayed away!

We had some pretty unique ideas! Before I executed with paint this is how I start to bring our vision to life. This is just using the "mark up" feature on my iPhone's photo editor. My 3 year old told me where to add color and ... yes where to add stripes! My kids I tell ya...

Once we were satisfied with our blue print I went to work! I had this hardware laying around from a different project and it suited this piece well.

I started by taping off the areas for stripes and gave the pink 2 coats. I brushed on the gold detailing.

Once that was all dry overnight I taped again and went to work on the stripes. She loves it, I love it, and I love how proud she is of her design :) Now this jewelry armoire is a Barbie accessory storage master.

Love it. I need a little armoire like that. The one I had from Goodwill was damaged. Any idea where to get one like yours or similar.

I have had plans to redo my jewelry armoire for quite a while now.

Mine has a cherry wood stain, I love to redo furniture with chalk paint, I just purchased some moss green chalk paint by Waverly and used it on a small project and turned out to be a beautiful soft green, I think it would look nice on my armoire.

Your armoire turned out adorable and with your little daughters designing and your paint job why wouldn’t it.

Maybe now I will find the time to get my armoire done.

Vert clever, cute idea! Having stepped on plenty of Barbie high heals I am all for this!
