Kitchen Stool Makeover

I had these wooden kitchen stools that were left from the previous owners of our home.

Before

I am a huge fan of using what you have and making it work. These stools were functional as we usually sit at the kitchen island for meals.

I just didn’t care for the black. I wanted the kitchen to be more light and airy as I’m a lover of softer colors.

I decided I was going to scuff sand them and repaint them. I used my orbital sander and 120 grit sandpaper and I revealed the light colored wood and knew I wanted to incorporate the soft tone with paint on them.

I sanded both stools down and used 220 grit and then 320 to make them super smooth.

Using a few chalk paints I had on hand and painters tape I did a color block on the stools. I incorporated light colors from my kitchen on each piece divided with tape.

Using Wise Owl salve I conditioned the wood and protected the paint after both stools were complete.

Salve is a great product that can be used on stainless steel, inside smelly drawers, and on leather just to name a few and you can find it on my website. It’s similar to wax but I prefer it as it’s not streaky!

This is how they look now. I had no idea such a light wood was under that black finish on these stools.

I absolutely love using what I have and making it work in my space. You can find me on Instagram @pickedandposhed painting all the things!

I hope I can inspire and/or encourage you to do the same.

Stay safe and creative!

I have exactly the same stools, had no idea they were worth sanding down or stripping. I am going to do this. Thank you for the inspiration
