Antique Buffet goes Romantic
Client brought me this beautiful antique buffet and wanted it redone in a peachy pink color with champagne highlights and fleur de lis stencils... It had bubbling Veneer up top, broken scroll wood work detail, broken stretcher and a caster that just wouldn't stay in. Just the project I was looking for!
Here is the broken stretcher underneath... i used wood glue and clamps to fix this...
I let this sit for 24 hrs.
time to remove that bubbling veneer up top! I used a heat gun and a scraper/flat putty knife. was a LOT of work but eventually i got it all off
All done. Then I sanded the top down smooth...
Primed and then painted the base in white and then the custom mixed color of peachy pink, as per client's request. Left that bottom portion of the front bottom open for arrival of the new wooded applique to arrive, ordered by client.
i added a raised stencil using my texture powder and some wise owl grey paint, in limestone. taped the stencil down and basically use the putty knife to apply the thickened paint, smoothing it out as you go along.
here is the raised stencil with a champagne color on top. the peachy color was distressed to reveal the white underneath.
the top was done in a variety of custom colors to resemble a driftwood type feel.
new hardware was added as well, ordered by client from house of antique hardware.
Final product! Client was very happy with her new piece.

What a gorgeous redo. After the veneer was removed, did you have any issues with the paint on the top of the piece filling in the seam lines shown in the picture?

Where are the rest of the photos? It's kind of hard to get the effect without pics!
