My Tiki Chair Makeover

Hi everyone. So, I bought a desk and chair set a while back at a used furniture store. I had redone the desk, but was searching for the perfect fabric to redo the chair. When I saw this Tiki fabric, well, let's just say it was love at first sight.
This is a solid, heavy, and wide chair. And there wasn't really any cushioning left for the booty to sit on either.

When I flipped it over, I was like-what the heck is this? Well, these chains were helping anchor the chair together. I just had to loosen them enough to get at the screws to take off the seat.
And look at what I found. There was a lot of dust coming out of this stuff. I threw it away, cleaned off the board, and replaced the cushioning.
I traced around a large piece of foam from Walmart and then cut it using an electric knife.
I then got out my electric staple gun and stapled the foam edges to the board.
A couple of layers of batting and it's ready for the fabric.
The chair was painted with a reject Valspar Furniture Paint in Heirloom Red from Lowes. Then I layered on a combination of Lici Thunderbird and Firebird Unicorn SPiT Sparkling Stain and Unicorn SPiT Gel Stain in Molly Red Pepper. I applied 3 coats of Minwax Wipe-On Poly to finish it off.
And here she is!
Variations of red.
Shimmery and shiny.
Sparkly goodness.
And a sit down view of the chair with my desk.
Another project done. I wish you could see how it it shimmers and sparkles but it's just so hard to capture that in pictures. I love my Tiki Chair. Reminds me to slow down and have a drink once in a while. icon Please feel free to visit me on facebook and pinterest. Thanks for reading! icon
