Dining chairs chalk painted and then added a white wash on top...plus new upholstery!
Step 1... I've found my project a set of 6 dining chairs! I removed the old upholstery, cleaned with TSP ECO.
(They were in really bad shape so we had to take a few of them completey apart and repair them)
Step 2... I HVLP Sprayed the two arm chairs using Galvanized Grey and the four standard chairs in Barn Wood and Vintage Denim.
(When I HVLP Spray Superior Paints I always dilute with 20% distilled water)
Step 3... I HVLP Spray sealed the chairs using 3 coats of Semi Gloss Top Coat.
(When spraying Superior Top Coat always deliute with 10% distilled water)
I was happy with the chairs but I thought they needed a little more depth... so I decided to apply a white wash on top using the NEW Shiplap Paint Colour! My favorite way to apply a white wash is using the saman graduated staining kit shown in the photo above.
For this white wash I want it to be very soft so I mixed 2 parts water and one part Shiplap.
I love this kit it even has a little "recipe" book so I can keep track of all my custom mixes!
Here's the sponge from the kit I love it because you can really get into all the tight areas without having to many runs.
Time to apply the wash! Shake Shake Shake!
You only need a little bit...
When applying a wash I tend apply in long smooth strokes and try my best to follow the grain of the wood...
Ok here's the close up .. I really like it how shiplap wash pooled in the detail areas.
Here's a side view! I was having so much fun I really didn't wanna stop...
But then I realized I had 5 more chairs to do! Yes this is a labor of love... I took my time make a fresh pot of coffee and white washed the other chairs.
Here they are all white washed, sealed and with new upholstery!!
I really love funky mismatched chairs but this is a nice shuttle. What do you think? Do you like them better before or after the wash?
