Painted Dining Room Hutch With Chalk Paint | Before & After
I have always loved antique furniture. The lines, the details, the style. Ahh, old furniture speaks to my old soul and makes my heart skip a beat! I always looked for pieces that were in really good condition because I had never been a fan of painting solid wood furniture.
When I found this piece listed on Craigslist, I asked my BFF to go on a bit of a road trip with me to go pick it up (yes, I’m always worried about those Craiglist murderers!!!) I’ll tell you this, it’s always WAY more fun to go shopping with a friend than by yourself! We had a great time! We loaded the hutch into the back of my minivan and brought it home.

It took turns taking up residence in our family room and then finally settling in our dining room. Kristin had always thought I should paint the dining room hutch but I was such a chicken! p.s. here is my tutorial for the felt heart swag!
Finally after over a year I finally decided to paint it using a new chalk paint I had discovered, Dixie Belle. This hutch was the very first piece I painted in chalk paint…and it has lead to a house full of chalk painted furniture!
Before painting any furniture, you need to clean it first! Prepping your piece is almost the most important thing you can do to ensure a beautiful coat of paint! I use White Lightning, a powder you mix into a water and wipe down your furniture. It is amazing at cleaning all of that dirt, grim and gunk off of your furniture…even if you can’t see it on there!
The hardest part was choosing which color to paint it! Dixie Belle has so many lovely colors!
I went with Dried Sage because it was my favorite creamy gray color that was very neutral!
There are so many reasons I love using Dixie Belle chalk paint, but one of my favorite is because it covers so well. No priming necessary…or sealing!
Two coats of paint and I had a totally different dining room hutch that was absolutely gorgeous! p.s. here is my tutorial for the coffee filter wreath!

Welp. Grey is better than the original! It has some nice moulding/lines around it that could be a stand out and bump it up a notch.
