Creating great barstools for $150.00
Completed my new island for an eat in kitchen, so of course for and island of this size I needed 6 bar stools which meant big money. I decided to get on Craigslist and see what I could find. I came across these 6 for only 120.00. The only problem was the outdated colors of the base and fabric. When I looked at them the were sturdy and comfortable. So my challenge began. I offered her 100.00 and she took it. Helped to keep in my $500.00 budget for new dining area.
I knew I could paint base wasn't to sure about recovering. So I got on the web and found I could paint fabric. Off to the hobby store to buy fabric medium and latex paint at hardware store.
Painted the bases a bronze to stay with my rustic look. Wanted to do a fun green because green is my passion lately.
Time consuming but they already look great!
The web page explained the process of equal parts of latex paint, water and fabric medium. Keeping fabric wet by spraying down fabric before applying paint with spray bottle.
It took three coats and a light sanding in between coats to soften paint. Takes time but it was work it!
My new 5 x 7 island is a great work space for all these chairs
Love how they turned out, over time the fabric has softened up even more. For $150.00 I would have never been able to purchased such sturdy comfortable fun chairs!
It takes time and patience but well worth the outcome without breaking the bank.
