The porch. The dog porch. The place where all the dog hair, dirt, and mud dance around with glee. Also the place where tools, equipment, saddles and cowboy gear, gardening items and plants and all the boots, hats, gloves and coats pile up. This room needed help. A homemade built-in cabinet was just what it needed! This is what the wall looked like before I tackled it...not very glamorous!
Not only was it an ugly wall, it was not useful in anyway.
I framed it in with old 2x4's. I used old boards that had been laying out in the pasture for a few years. They were a bit warped, which did not make it any easier. It would have been much easier to have straight boards!
Again the boards I used for the sides and drawers were rustic, filled with character... and warped.
There is so much room to store so many things now! Including the dog beds (you can see a picture of that in the post linked below!) I plan on putting some nice drawer pulls on the drawers someday as well.
Oh, I certainly do love before and after pictures. Isn't that so much nicer? The splash of red really pops and all of my bee equipment, cat foot, dog food, dog beds, pressure canner, cheese press, weight lifting weights and workout equipment are all neatly put away...phew! That's a lot of stuff! There's a secret compartment too ;) You can read more details and see more pictures here: http://www.alifeofheritage.com/budget-renovations/pallet-and-barn-wood-built-in-cabinet/
