I have a large dining room/kitchen that I plan on painting a smoky blue. The kitchen cabinets are a light brown and the floor is a light brown wood laminate. My table is a darker brown and I need some ideas for a rug color. I was thinking a lighter blue. Any thoughts? Thank you 😊!!!!

Hi Cat. Light smoky blur sounds wonderful. Put some accent pillows or other accents around and pull it all together. Good luck I think it will be beautiful.

Always put a patterned rug under dining tables. Adds interest and color. Also hides spills. That's why you should never do wall to wall where you eat .

I would do a patterned rug too! Yes--they do hide crumbs! Perhaps you can find one with blues, browns, and creams--even with small amounts of another color.

How about a punch of color with rose, yellow, or coral? The rug would have to include your accent color with the blue.

I agree with the idea of a patterned rug. For color and pattern ideas, go to some of those shop-at-home websites. Input the size rug you are interested in, and click away. The multitude of choices is amazing.

I would definitely use a patterned rug which picks up the blue. Since it is in the kitchen, I would definitely look for a sturdy one that can be cleaned. Look at the one below from Wayfair:

Pick a multicolor rug with blues, grays and browns. A pattern will also hide food stains better than a solid.

Paint is the first thing you DO, but the last thing you BUY. If you choose your paint color first, and then go out looking for a rug with that color in it, you may never find it. Find the rug first, and then the store can make the paint match the color in the rug.

Get a bright pattern, that incorporates or complements the blue. A pale blue solid could be difficult in a dining space.

I've had good luck shopping for area rugs online, because you can input the colors, sizes, types, and price you're interested in. Just go to one of those sites that advertise all the time.
