I always wanted to have a table & chairs set - but with mix/matched chairs. I lucked out when I found a mid 1960's Ethan Allen Maple table that I got with 2 chairs (the 3rd and 4th chairs) for only $26!!! SCORE! Needs some work - but this is going to be MINE.
This was the 1960's Ethan Allen table I scored! It only came with one leaf - but that's more than enough for the two of us.
Chair 1 Given to me by a friend - The seat was spit - after sanding it down and gluing the split together we reinforced the bottom. This poor girl had electrical tape on her legs and ugly plastic cap feet. UGH!
Chair 2 also given to me - great bones! This one is split a couple times...no biggie, we glued them together and then reinforced the bottom, just like chair 1
This is what I mean by reinforcing the bottom. Once a chair splits - it will keep splitting unless you reinforce the bottom. To do that, get a couple of strips of wood that will span the width of your seat. AFTER gluing the split together - attach the strips to the bottom of the seat (front and back) to help prevent another split. This is our tiniest chair. It's been weight tested over 300 pounds. So, yes, it really does work. :D
Chair 3 - part of the "table & 2 chairs for $26" deal. Painted black. Sanded her down back to bare wood, stained, painted, polyed.
Chair 4 (the other chair in the table & 2 chairs deal) - this originally had a rush seat in bad shape. No problemo - hubby volunteered to MAKE a wood seat. Took this apart, sanded, stained, painted & polyed.
The first 2 chairs finished! You can see the strawberry design I painted on the tops of the backs. Accented the chairs in gold to match the chicken tracks on the seats.
Yep - I said chicken tracks! Aren't they just adorable????
All 4 chairs finished!
And here is the table. I took her completely apart, sanded her down, got rid of the ink stains, stained, painted & polyed. See the rooster? That's who's been making the chicken tracks! Circled the table in another strawberry vine bringing them all together.
Here's the table with the leaf installed. I'm seeing double!!! No wonder there are so many tracks!
I absolutely LOVED doing this! It's different - unique and a definite talking point whenever someone new comes over. The overall price is to die for! Less than $80 did it all!

Wow, amazed out with what you could make out of those original pieces. Was the chair reinforcement glued to the bottom of chairs?
