I have a hutch very similar that was part of my mom-in-laws furniture when she passed. It is oak and very dark. There is a light in the top of hers and I wanted the light to filter down to the other shelves.....so I took the shelving out and made a long cut (about the width and length of 2 pencils put end to end) in 3 even places near the back of each shelf. When I put them back in and turned on the light, the light filtered down to the other compartments. I haven't painted it yet, but will be inclined to paint it in a white/gray chalk paint. I sure love the wallpaper idea.......still deciding.
  • Well that was a GREAT idea for the light filtering down !!! Thanks Cindy - ( for the extra work you just put on my to do list LOL !!! ) and your kind words ! That hutch has since been painted black and very distressed but the wallpaper still looks great in it :) xoxo
