Here is one use for old filing cabinet drawers that found new purpose and use for children. Nothing should go to waste if it can be recycled, painted, and made into something useful for someone else or ourselves. Here is one idea a grandma had for her smaller grandchildren.
Michelle found these old drawers from an old filing cabinet. They were ready for the garbage heap, or were they? She loves to make old discards into something for her grandchildren.
She repainted them and cleaned them up. Added some hardware to the back to make a hinge and used an old piece of plywood for the top and attached the hinge to it too. Then she padded and covered the top with a soft seat.
This box of an old drawer can be used or stored in any room of the house. It is portable as needed.
With the hinge on the back, the box is also a hide away for small toys for small children to play too. What an ingenious use of a drawer destined for the garbage heap in most cases! Now the smaller children have a toy box and seat on which to play when they come visit Grandma!

Did she use a safe hinge for it? The trouble with lidded boxes is they fall on little heads and fingers. There are special hinges made for toy boxes now that don't close quickly. Personally, I think this is a great idea for myself, but would rather see a removable lid if the box is for a child.
