UpCycling to a Different Drummer

2 Materials

So the stars were aligned when I stopped and picked up a vintage, beat up Tom Tom Drum. It wasn’t complete but I saw potential. Two weeks later I am changing out the chandelier over our dining room table for something more modern when a light bulb came on....

In spite of the drum’s beat up appearance, I saw a hanging light in my future. When I changed out our chandelier I realized I had all the pieces for this coolness.

The chandeliers nickel hardware was a perfect fit to hang the drum from. After cleaning the drum I painted it a semi gloss color called Black Beauty.

Once painted, I drilled three holes on the three corners at the top of the drum. I polished the metal fittings on the drum and then mounted the light hardware on top. It was as easy as inserting the three hardware hook supports into the holes I had drilled.

This was one of the easiest and coolest flips I have ever done. The second bonus was... it was all free. Remember, keep your eyes on the road and the side of the road in case you need to do a bat turn for coolness.
