Kitchen Remodel - Original 1950s to Now

This is a bit of a personal post. I feel I caught a lot of criticism on the custom painted kitchen cabinet post that I did for a customer on a budget who's finances didn't allow for a complete overhaul but merely a freshening up. So I've decided to share the kitchen remodel that was done in my own home by myself (I designed) and my husband (he made it happen). Hes a handy and stubborn kind of guy who refuses to hire anyone when he can do the job himself.
The kitchen had never been updated, the walls were yellow, and there was an outlet over the window to plug a clock into the wall. This was the original 1950s kitchen.
The stove was an old Caloric with the King Air fan in the wall.. We needed a match to to light the oven and burners and needed to pull the chain in the wall to open the vent to outside the house and start the fan.
The kitchen had a strange quaintness to it, but it was cramped and needed to be remodeled.
Everything was removed - cabinets, tile, appliances.. EVERYTHING
New tile was put down to replace the old peel up linoleum.
New warm chestnut cabinets
We chose recycled counter tops with a gray base
New tile back splash. The warm browns and cool grays create a nice balance.
Because the walls are now painted gray (good bye yellow), the counter tops are also in the gray family we opted for black appliances to avoid over doing it with the gray/silver. You can also see that the location of the stove has been changed. The gas line was redirected to the other side of the wall which opened up the entire room and makes the kitchen look so much larger.
This is the link to the post done for a friend on a budget.. It is a rental property that needed some freshening up in between renters. Id like to be able to show both ends of the spectrum.. sometimes choices have to be made as to where to invest money and where investments cant be made due to lack of funds. while other times (as in our own homes) we are able to go "all in" and really complete an entire overhaul.

How much you spent in the remodeling? I need to do mine & it looks pretty much like yours. I love your kitchen!!!

Very nice! How much do you think the countertops alone cost? How do they compare to quartz or granite?

Stunning! Love the chestnut and grays and all your color choices. The backsplash really pops with the lighting. Great job

Beautiful! Once again I am reading a post and thinking how beautiful. The colours look so rich and your lighting under the cabinets looks lovely. I scroll slowly to the bottom of this post and Low and Behold... Just the Woods! Congrats on ANOTHER job well done!
