How should I begin the restoration of this sink cabinet?

We just moved into a farm house built in 1950s. The sink is from before 1950 but it’s got an awesome retro look to it. It needs to be cleaned up and painted it any ideas

I would give it a good scrub with an ammonia based ckeaner to cut through the grease. Then if your going to paint it use Kitchen and Bath semi-gloss paint. Very nice

Oh that is going to look fantastic when it's done. Glad to hear you aren't just getting rid of it. I have the same sink (not the base) downstairs here. Those old sinks with the drain trays are awesome.

I think Sharon's right, give it a good scrub then paint it.

The sink and drain boards should clean up easily. To remove stains us Clorox bleach straight on it. For stubborn stains you ight have to try diluted hydrochloric acid. The metal base needs a good wet sanding and paint for metal. It will shine again. I had one of these and loved it.

I will paint it. Paint is the most easy suggestions and solutions for it.

Did my brothers metal kitchen cabinets a few years ago. Clean them well with Krud Kutter or TSP. Then lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper to remove any gloss. Wipe down with a damp cloth. Prime with Kilz primer. Then paint. I used a foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish. No brush marks.

I hope that you are planning to relocate that electrical cord hanging down almost into the sink from the light between the windows.

This is a potentially very dangerous situation.

Oh that is so great, I love that sink cabinet. At least save the top part; we have the same one (without cabinet) in our basement and love it.

Just give it a good cleaning, maybe it doesn't even need to be painted?
