I would paint the insiides a cream color or even a light tan -- stay away from pure white though --it will 'yellow' over time. On the more tech side...consider adding some of the press on LED light strips to the very back underside of each shelf -- they are pretty in-expensive and have a very LONG life. Hope this helps.....John

Assuming their stained dark, you can always paint them or you can strip the finish and stain off and lightly sand and stain a lighter color and relacquer . Just depending on what you want?

Had the same problem in my pantry cabinet. I bought a battery light and just set it in front of the cabinet shelf I did not attach it, that way I can move it from one shelf to another. I love it.
