Remove all the mounting hardware from under counter top. Then slow work around the edges with a pry bar and loosen the chalked edges. only lift slightly at each spot till the counter is loosen the whole way around then remove.
Wood counters are screwed from underneath and caulked. Remove the screws, cut the caulk, and gently pry up. Stone counters are just caulked. Cut the caulk and gently pry up.
