You could purchase a piece of butcher block and attach it with a piano hinge. Then add a support to hold in place while it is being used as an eating area, but you can drop down to the side so the area is open when not in use.

HI there for a simple option you can purchase shelf brackets (they make really pretty ones that look like corbels!) And install a a shelf along the end of your counter. You can purchase inexpensive shelves and shelf brackets at any hardware or home improvement store or even online on Amazon.

Take a lot of measurements and figure out how much space you have available and what things can attach to and how. A lot depends on what's existing and what you're looking to accomplish, if it's permanently up or it folds, what kind of materials/surface/brackets you use. I would visit a store like IKEA and find a table about the same height and then add stools or chairs. You could add a runner or something to make it look seamless.

It can be as simple as using a piece of countertop material in the right size and using brackets underneath to attach it. :)
