My son bought a house with very little counter space. We would like to add an island with a base cabinet and butcher block counter with drop leafs for eating. Any suggestions to make this and look very high end?

Home depot sells piano hinges any lengths measure and cut for size. Suggest wide for supporting drop leaf.

The short answer? Obtain a slab of wood, marble, etc. After sanding, painting and adding a coat of polyurathene to the base, attach top. Add knob feet or casters.

I had a 1955 trailer with a similar problem. They used a piano hinge to attach a segment of additional counter, and a custom shelf bracket that could support it while in use, then fold back when not. It was a piece of 3/4" plywood cut in an attractive way and attached with hinges.
