How to make use of space above kitchen cabinets?
I would like to fill in the space above my kitchen cabinets as the only purpose served now is to collect dust This would be the space from top of cabinet to the ceiling, about 12". Would like to use it for storage for items not used often.

For storage, I would find baskets that fit in the space and place your items in them. It will be a much neater look.
Here's what 1 lady did, build boxes and put them in:

You can have or build additional cabinetry and use either doors or sliding doors to access. Be warned doing this will considerably "close-in" your kitchen and make it feel smaller. An easy way to use the area is to purchase several baskets or decorative boxes and store items within them. Not a permanent change to your kitchen but might make good use of the area above the cabinetry. I personally have about a 20" area above my cabinets have added decorative vaes and artwork to that area aas my home is very open. I get many compliments on the aea and have fun changing the items every couple of years.
I put vintage crates on mine and they hold extra boxes of cereal etc.
I used mine to display. Currently there is not enough room for that in my current kitchen but still a gap. Fill it in with plywood strips and add trim to the top at the ceiling. You could stencil a design on it or a saying.
I'd store a cute sign with a faux plant and basket propped up on its side.
Could you find large baskets or bins that would fit up there and put your rarely used items in them? I’m thinking woven wicker cake plastic.

Hello. Display of preferred personal collections-decorative items like cookie jars, teapots ceramic statues might be options.
Here's a tip for the dust aspect. Cut several layers of contact paper to fit the space and lay them with the backing still applied. When it gets dusty, remove a layer.
You could use artificial plants and antique items to sit on top of cabinets.
