Hi Carol, you can liven up your oak cabinets with Briwax. It's a wax stain that feeds and refreshes wood. Here's a tutorial on how to do it - https://inbetweenchaos.com/2017/10/01/refreshing-worn-wood-with-briwax/amp/
Hello. Polyshades might be a product to consider if you wish to changing the cabinets color.

Clean them with Murphy's Oil Soap. Once they are dry, use Old English Lemon Oil. You'll be amazed at the difference.
Give your wood a good cleaning with Murphy's Oil Soap, follow bottle directions and see how they look. Also, Orange Glo does a good job of cleaning and bringing out the natural luster of wood.
If you want to go further and stain after cleaning, you could consider this product:
Minwax® Design Series Wood Effects
Fromby's wood cleaner then polish with the Fromby's lemon oil
I agree with Ann. Murphy's Oil Soap and Old English Lemon oil.
You could refinish it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS6LgYxbx9M
Restor-A-Finish, Super Fine (0000) Steel Wool and Howard Feed-N-Wax. For Restor-a-Finish sold at Home Depot (and probably a few other stores too).
I cleaned mine completely and then applied a light stain. Let that dry and then used an acrylic matt finish. I love them
After giving the cabinets a thorough cleaning and polishing, as others have already suggested, I would advise to change the hardware. Switching out 20yr old knobs or handles with hardware that is more contemporary looking can inject energy to old cabinets. Here are some examples:
I like OrangeGlo but if it’s severe, maybe teak oil.
Restain them
I love using Restor-a-finish from Howards for this sort of thing.
thanks everyone.I have a lot of thinking to do….lol
Use soap and water to clean and then when dry use a furniture polish/wax.

Lightly sand them down then clean all dust off.then varnish them all over you could even get new hardwear to dress them up.Ps if you get new hardwear take off before you sand
Carol, if you haven't checked out Michelle Leslie's link above, take a quick look. That might be a great fix for you, especially if you don't want to paint the cabinets.
Do you want to stain them
