How would you add a breakfast nook and storage to this area?
We recently painted our kitchen. We also got rid of a kitchen island. Before we did this particular area of our kitchen was used for storage. We’re ready to make use out of it and would like to put in a breakfast nook and some storage shelves to hold kitchen items. But my husband and I can’t agree yet on how to do it. Ideas?

Hi Lisa, here's a youtube video showing how to build a storage bench for an area such as yours. You could use the length of the window wall and a couple of feet of the side walls to create an eating space and storage area. It's about 4 minutes in before he gets to building! :)

I would go with a bench along the wall under the window and have open shelves underneath. I have a hinged lid seat and it's kind of a pain to store and get items out. You could do built in seating on 1, 2 or 3 sides.
A nice U shaped seating area with storage under the seats.
You could put a small table in the middle of that so there would be a nice place to have a cup of coffee.
New lighting would help update the space also.
I would install some blinds that you could roll up or down to give you some privacy while dining. This would also help if that window lets a lot of heat in.
Table in the centre, chairs either side or one each side and two facing window.
Shelves could be fixed to walls and wrap around to windows.
I would put a bench under the window. I would buy some cabinets for the side walls. I hate open shelving in the kitchen.

I would do a long ell shaped bench with high back with storage under the seats that lift up for storage table in front then 2 chairs or a pic Knick bench at the end opposite the window.
You could put a tall cabinet, about 12 inches deep, beside the fridge with doors facing the windows.
Personally, I don't like bench seating because it's too hard for people to get in and out.

The biggest question is if you prefer a round or square table. If you like the square table, bench seating can offer hidden storage. You might also consider an island with bar stool seating on one side as this is only a nook and not your main dining area. If you prefer the round table, your better bet is to get a bistro style set and then have some open shelving with a bar cart type storage that fits under it.
If you send me the dimensions I can help. I need the length of the wall with the window, the windowsill height, the overall window height and width, as well as the distance from the corner to the windows left and right sides. I would also like the length of the adjoining walls. I can draw it up in Chief Architect and show you how it will look.
My first idea is to put in a storage bench stretching from one corner to the other. If you need the visual send I will be happy to help.
U shaped bench that runs the entire space (especially the corners) then slide a table to the comfortable position so there is plenty of leg room and enough room for heavy people to get in and out.
