I need to get an estimate and cost break down before I can start working on my husband to agree to it. i need low cost or free because I don't know when i will be able to actually get the work done. Any ideas? i did send an email to local college's design dept to see if they do real world projects for their students.

Check your local Habitat Restore or any salvage yard. Lots of times they have cabinets and granite at a cheap price. Just make sure your measurements are correct. Do you have any handyman services in your area. Be sure and get references and actually call the people and have them send you pictures. There are a lot of scams out there.

Many neighborhoods have on line listings for "Free" furniture, rugs and all kinds of things as well ad low cost items. We just purchased a 6 piece metal patio set for our back porch for $150, then spent about $100 painting it.

You can use almost anything; you can paint old scratched wooden pieces, making your own chalk paint (google this).

Try your thrift shops...Goodwill has great things!

    Yard sales are good too!

Large flower pots make great tables! Just add a top.

Clean and paint kitchen cabinets with chalk paint!

Old cabinets can be re-modeled with cutting out the center of the doors and inserting glass, or

    Putting up shelves.

Old doors can be turned into hall trees, benches, tables, decorations!

Rough walls can be covered with texture paint...I love this.

    Investigate the categories on Hometalk.

Adding beadboard or chair rails adds a lot.

Look around Hometalk...everything is on here! LOL

P.S. Put a small tape measure in your purse/pocket and measure width and depth of things you see. If you are looking for something for a specific area, take your measurements with you!

We were at the Habitat Restore recently and was shocked at the quality furniture they had. Rugs too!!! (This was in Chamblee, north of Atlanta, GA)
