Ideas for my galley kitchen

Hi all! I’ve got a small galley kitchen in an old converted mill, and I would love to hear your ideas for it! I am looking for furniture ideas for extra storage for small appliances (Cuisinart, KitchenAid Mixer and other things) for a space that’s about 5’W x 38”H X 15” D in my kitchen, that also has an area for shelving above it. Any thoughts? I know I’m going to sound like an arsehole, but I would also like this to be from somewhere other than HomeDepot or Lowe’s. I know, I’m terrible, but please consider!
Kind regards,
Stephanie

At only 38" high, you may not have room for much shelving on top. Kitchen Aid mixers are not a short small appliance, so you would need to have a good sized shelf for that. I know, because I don't have anywhere to put mine in the kitchen cupboards because of the height and it resides in its original box and packing material in a closet. Perhaps you could build something yourself and you could enclose part of it to store the small appliances in with open shelves above it. You wouldn't have to have the shelves attached, you could use brackets to put them up. I actually use an old aquarium stand that I made a thick plywood top for to store plant care things in my back room and put a large terrarium on top and a couple of other plants that outgrew the bedroom (became too tall to be below the hanging pothos anymore) We had to get some lower plants to put in the bedroom. Check out some places like Salvation Army, Goodwill, and other places for something like a narrow bookcase with some character and lay it on its side. You could make doors for it, or use Velcro and fabric in an old style print that would go with the colors and décor in your kitchen. Just a couple of ideas, maybe it will help getting your ideas flowing for what you want for your storage without looking like the cookie cutter things most stores sell.

I would start looking for an old piece of furniture, maybe a dresser with doors or open shelves instead of drawers and a hutch on top. Go to antique shops, yard sales, estate sales and flea markets. Use your imagination when looking. Think about what can be done to that piece of furniture. Can you change it to fit your needs? Be sure to carry your tape measure and the exact dimensions that will fit. Be patient with your search, it may take time but you will find the perfect piece. After cleaning it up, you can finish it any way you want. Take pictures of the whole process and the post it for all of us to see. Good luck with your project and happy hunting.

I used one of those antique 60s girls vanity tables thats kinda like a kidney shape in front and flat on the back. I stripped it and painted it with milk paint. I loved it cause it was all rounded surfaces that I couldn't bump into..... http://www.rockler.com/5-8-framing-points?sid=V9146?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_content=pla&utm_campaign=PL&gclid=CjwKCAjw4sLVBRAlEiwASblR-9ww3ctJEYOXOWxbUrOAlnaDjcedi6kWO6TRpZWRqc1NC2WxYqIZvhoC2ooQAvD_BwE I found at a thrift store.
