How can I replace a huge ugly florescent ceiling light fixture in my kitchen? I have a 2 story house so it would be difficult to install can lighting. I am looking for something that will give plenty of light for a semi large kitchen.

I removed the fluorescent light from my kitchen and put in a 2 bulb light fixture, and a hanging light for over the sink.

    Are the florescent lights recessed?

Plus the ceilings are 10 feet. Some type of track lighting may work. @
  • I would check in to some of the track lighting. There are so many designs to choose from now. I would just make sure to know what light bulbs they take because replacing lightbulbs when they burn out can be quite pricey with some of the bulbs. I would look into LED lighting and I can tell you that I switched to LEDs which are a bit more expensive but the lighting is so much better. Good luck

I had florescent lights that were recessed with the ugly grates. I took them out, painted the "cavity" and put in 2 hanging mason jar fixtures with 8 lights each. 40W x 16 is lotsa light! :)

We took out a false ceiling that contained those large fluorescent tube lighting in our kitchen. We installed flat panel lights that we got at either Home Depot or Lowes until we can do a full kitchen remodel. Then we plan on having a white bead board ceiling with recessed lighting and under cabinet lights.

I guess these questions hang out there forever. That was like 3 years ago. We finally ended up putting up a large ceiling fan with a light. Worked great! However, we just moved to a new home this past week. But thanks!
