I like the look of open shelves. They can hold cookbooks, potted herbs, any pretty crockery , etc.

My sister in law has a display of plates, different sizes and patterns, but all with blue matching colors. The dark blue's are pretty. Could use any color to match your decor. Yard sales and thrift stores are good places to find single plates, saucers, etc.

An antique window frame in which you have placed mirrors . It will reflect the light in your kitchen and make it look bigger .

This is what I did with my old window. If you put anything on it, make sure it's light weight and glued on.

Are you meaning that you are staring at a solid wall behind the sink with no window? I have moved a lot in the past and everytime I have a kitchen with no window above the sink, I hang a mirror. I hate the "claustrophobic" feeling a solid wall creates! It's the very first thing I do after I move in ... even before I hang the curtains! :)

A mirror (cheaply found at Home Goods or reuse places) not only bounces light around a room but "draws the eye into" it, adding "depth", therefore, instead of your vision stopping against the wall, your eye travels "into" the mirror. It also reflects items (in the room) back at you. Just try it and you'll be amazed. As a "test", hang a mirror up and leave it for say, two or three days then take it down and see the difference!! I bet you hang it up again real fast! lol.

As for cleaning, I find I only clean it once a month or so - my own mirror is far enough above the sink that it rarely gets splashed.

i have put up an old winow mirror. It helps a lot but it seems like it's missing something. I'm thinking of painting and distressing it with red.

I think it looks perfect just the way it is! You're lucky you were able to hang such a good sized mirror! I couldn't ... as my tall faucet is mounted too tight/close to the wall but I still was able to hang a smallish mirror. Do you like the idea of the eye going INTO the glass - I find it takes away that "claustrophobic feeling" of just looking at a dead wall in front of you. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts.
