Kitchen countertop

Question

I am still trying to decide what type countertop to go with these brick floors. I'm painting the cabinets white, appliances are black and the brick floor is a little darker than this picture shows. It has browns, blacks, peach to burgundy/amber tones. I've thought of a white quartz with gray veins or a pretty granite but can't decide what actually flows with this floor. HELP!! :)

I think with black appliances and white cabinets a black granite would look great with these floors

I would go with a light gray with subtle hints of the colors in your floor, but nothing to busy, because of the floor.

Depending on the size of the kitchen, the black may make the space too dark, making it look smaller.

I'd probably paint the cabinets a light shade of gray or tan, because stark white would be too much contrast with the floor & black appliances. Whatever you choose for the countertops & cabinets should coordinate with the floor, not stand out. Before buying anything bring home samples to check shades next to your floor, because a room's lighting can make a huge difference in the final outcome.

Unlike most, I think you should try to pick up on the bronzey tones in the floor. It is a good neutral and not a deep a color as the black so the contrast wouldnt be as great. I would also try to keep it as subtle as possible, (not a busy pattern). You might also look into getting a quartz counter top. They are more durable than granite and often come in more variety of colors than granite. Good luck to you!

Granite, even black, can be rather busy. Even with white cabinets, I would use the white Quartz...with almost no activity. And I agree with Donna Byram that a light gray might look better on the cabinets...a dove gray...than stark white. Then the white Quartz will stand out more. White subway tile would then be a great backsplash!

A copper looking color with slight undertones of the other colors in the brick.  If your cabinites are white, appliances are black and you go a solid color for your counters will result in a stark, visually bland, mismatched look.  Perhaps recycled glass with all the colors.  Or speckled man made solid surface.

Definitely would go with the lighter with some warm stones.  Not that it matters, but I would not buy a house with black countertops.

I think wood countertops would warm up the brick floor and would be beautiful with white cabinets as in this picture. Good luck!

wow...you're so lucky to have authentic brick floors! I've attached some photos of white kitchens with colorful brick floors...maybe try to figure out what speaks to you most and then go for that? Is it a historic house?...because there are classic combinations that you might want to think about as well to stay true to the home's style, like the white cabinet, black counter combo. Gray is a popular trend right now, and if I were selling, I would consider incorporating it, but who knows how long that will last, plus getting the right gray can be tricky...it can be beautiful but there's a lot of gray out there right now that's missing the mark. Frankly, it's hard for me to see it working with that floor and the white cabinets. On the other hand, I really like your idea of the white quartz with gray veining, that's a beautiful look that most people would be happy with and remains a classic look while picking up a touch of gray that works. I also love the idea of picking up copper, whether a sink, cookware, or just accents...copper seems like a good match for that floor. Good luck! I think it will be beautiful. That floor is such a great kicking off point.

If you do a lot of cooking, don't install Marble in your kitchen. It is a very soft and porous surface. If this were my floor, I would choose a Santa Helena granite or darker to compliment the floor. You will have the white cabinet to delineate the colors. The Santa Helena will pick up the bronze, and browns in the floor and the white in the cabinets, creating a stunning look. 
 Wood would also look great in a walnut color. However, wood tops are pricey.

I believe the picture you like( 3rd one in) is soap stone. Very beautiful. It isn't porous at all but must be oiled to keep the look that is shown. I thought about getting it for my kitchen , Then read a blog by a women who was reviewing it one year after getting it installed. She said it definitely is not for everyone, u can see where glasses are put down. It makes rings. I figured it would drive me nuts so...granite it was. Good luck.

I am all for light colors. I like the idea of the white Corian that Mikell suggested. However, go to Home Depot and get samples (little squares) of the Corian. We had a counter-top installed several years ago, I think it was called Desert Sand. Take sample(s) home and see what it looks like against the floor. That would be my choice again in my new house.

After MUCH gut wrenching, I painted my golden oak cabinets white, knocked down an overhanging cabinet that was blocking breakfast area from full kitchen view, took off the 80's country spindle from top of cabinets and replaced with crown molding, painted walls a bisque color, and chose leathered coffee brown granite as the countertop to match the brick floors I posted the picture of. I'm really happy with the result and urge anyone contemplating painting stained cabinets to DO IT if you want a more bright and cheerful look. The paint wipes off easily so you know your kitchen is clean. Thanks to everyone who offered input with the countertop selection! I like the classic look that I ended up with.
