There is also a stupid little desk height cabinet with more drawers to the right of the fridge. Next to the stove is a cabinet that holds a trash can and yet another drawer.

The top cupboards are way to high. I have to use a stool to pit any on the shelves. And the two on the wall with the sink don't match the other cupboards. To top it off, the majority of the bottom cupboards are drawers. There is an open space to the left of the refrigerator. I'm hoping to move the bottom cupboards to the right of the sink to the open spot, then add a dishwasher where those cupboards currently are. The cupboards are fine inside, but will need to be painted as they are a little beat up.
I am am currently working on putting in vinyl plank floorimg throughout the house, so of course like everyone else, I don't want to spend a ton on this.
Well , if you don't have the money to redo the whole kitchen you might try painting it a bright white color . It is very small . I would add more cupboards. What is on the other side of the wall by the sink. If it is just a wall , you could possibly have a window put in. Brighten up the counter top.Put those two matching cupboards on the other wall and the glass cupboard to the left of the sink. I hope this helps. I sorry if it doesn't .

I would gut the kitchen, paint the cabinets and do a new layout. For above the counters I would do open shelving. Ikea has great small kitchen ideas. check out their photos on their web site.
Funny how our situations vary our opinions. Your kitchen looks large to me! I bet anything a tall man put in those cupboards and one with no idea of design. It would help a lot if you posted other pictures of the kitchen so we see all four walls. Is there no window in this kitchen? the thing that I find most objectionable is the fluorescent light. That should be changed. Also your sink needs a center of interest. Can you have a window put in there? Also your microwave seems to be taking up a lot of space, can you put that anyplace lower? The cupboards are an easy fix. Don't know about the rest. Here is my kitchen which really is small!
