Need color advice to offset non-matching kitchen elements

Our kitchen floor is green tile and the counter tops are the typical granite -- brown, tan & black mottling. Both are here to stay. I plan to have the walls repainted and to redo the ugly cabinets that my husband tried to stain (will paint, reface or replace). Given the different floor and counter colors, what colors would work on the walls and on the cabinets to make the room look more cohesive? Thanks!

Is it possible to paint the cabinets?

How about an antique Victorian ivory for the cabinets or maybe a soft dove gray! Walls could be a soft pale green. Is it possible to post a photo?

I love the idea of dove gray for the cabinets. The walls currently are green, but perhaps would be better if grayish-green. Thank you for the suggestion! Not sure if I can take good enough photos to post, but will take a look.

I'm not sure. They have 4 coats of MinWax glossy dark brown stain on them (the main reason I want to make a change). :-(

  • You may want to think about working in the tan for the kitchen for the walls to pop it out of the granite and mix with the green flooring. Then for the cabinets you could go lighter or darker depending upon how much natural sunlight. If you want lighter then the dove gray as suggested above or even a gray with a bit more brown in it to pop the granite out. Whatever you do since you have granite, i would try to get the granite to be the focal and accessorize with a pop of color. it is easier to give color in accessories such as towels, curtains, and even small appliances. I love black appliances and it makes a kitchen so sleek with any color of cabinet or flooring. just some thoughts.
