Hi hometalkers! I need your help re-doing this dinning room. For starters i would like new window treatments, I'm tired of opening and closing the blinds. I would love light, sheer grommet panels however I do need privacy. Also thinking about changing the table to a rectangular and maybe putting it against the faux brick wall as i would like to add more storage. Maybe a bigger cube storage unit?? I have ideas in my head but I'm not good at putting them together......please help meicon

Paint bricks light color..put banquet seating on half wall with lift up top for storage..smallish rectangle table..use your chairs..some type of tall eitagiere on kitchen wall...check out Wayfair..they have all sizes and shapes...light honeycomb shades or sillouttes at window with valance only made from same material as on banquet cushion

You could use a privacy film on the windows themselves (the kind that adheres with water initially, then sticks with static). They come in various designs that will allow light to come in and coupled with the sheers that you would like Will give you the privacy you need. Instead of putting the rectangular table against the faux brick, what would you think of a buffet table under the window? That would give you a ton of extra storage, you can upcycle an old dresser or entertainment unit to keep costs down. I would find another home for the cube dresser and move the table more to the centre. I have a similar small dining area with a rectangular table...I find that it looks great, but tends to block diners in place and because of that was considering replacing with a round table!

Yes......privacy film it is!! I understand what you mean with blocking diners in place. I though maybe i could flush a rectangular table against one of the walls like Trish suggested. Thank you for your help

You can buy rolls of window privacy. Lowes or home depot or even amazon. ..they have many different designs to choose from..very easy to put on.a little water and apply. .if you mess up it peels off and try again.

I think from the pics you show, that the round table fits the space better. A rectangular would not only look too boxy but would take away space because you would have to have it at least 2 ft out from wall to utilize that side for seating and also it would likely be difficult to squeeze back there to sit down because of the width of the area. I therefore think the round gives it that cute cafe/ bistro look that fits the space. As for storage, could you maybe obtain an additional " cube" and put beside the other one? It would kind of give the appearance of a sideboard. Finally for the window treatment if your concern is privacy the shears won't cut it. If you just want the look, leave your wooden blinds and hang the shears. not to condescend but come on now, how difficult is it to twist the wand or pull a string to let the light in? I can think of many more taxing things I do in a day.

You are right about it looking too boxy that's why I initially got the round table. But now that I need more storage I thought a rectangular table that i could flush against the wall I put seating where it is accessible might work. I understand what you mean about the blinds, but i kind of have to go through the house twisting and pull in the morning and at night and its kind of annoying. I really appreciate your suggestions, thank you very much

You have a GREAT space to play with there! I get it with blinds! Here is what I just did and it's working so far, hung two "tie up" panels in front of open blinds. ( I will include a photo.) If window faces a busy street, leave blinds at a slant, no need to do xtr work and cover for privacy. OR do Xtr LONG luxurious drapes (without the cost) by using pvc pipe hung "properly" see google. Lol

I just changed to bench seating against my window wall...maybe you could do the same to save space? Easy to make your own or buy, as big as you want. I think a small rectangular will be fine! Don't paint brick! Personally I don't fit a lot into cube storage. I do like furniture that doubles for storage and can be used as a surface buffet. Trunks are are great for that! Put legs or wheels on something you find at Home Goods/Ross/Good Will or make! ideas are limitless! Good luck hun!!

If you have a narrow enough table and smaller scale chairs but you would have to lose the cube.....https://www.houzz.com/photos/15854944/Coastal-chic-beach-style-dining-room-providence

Something like this could snug into your corner and look awesome with that brick wall.....https://www.houzz.com/photos/query/small-dining-area-with-privacy-sheers/nqrwns/p/16

Angelica- You have some great suggestions. You can incorporate them into a Lovely Dining area. I think Banquet seating would give you a little more room. If you do custom seating you could have storage under the seats. Natural lighting is a plus so sheer curtains are a must have with a draw back drape for privacy. If dining for two, you can go for a Small table where the Cube is and then a Bench seat below the window with custom cushions. Your pass thru Counter over the sink can be wider with High Back stools for eating also.

Angela, I don't know if you like the faux brick or not, but someone mentioned 'don't paint the brick'. I had a black/white/gray faux brick with black mastic. I white washed mine with watered down latex paint. It made the whole thing lighter a brightened up our room. Just a thought.
