If you are on a tight budget, I would paint all of the cabinets, including the doors the same satin white. Google a DIY site to tell you the process of painting cabinets. I would then buy knobs, drawer pulls, or whatever you like and fits your decor and install them on all the drawers and doors. You can never go wrong with an all white kitchen, as you can decorate it in any style. Add color with pottery, greenery, and dishes. Hope this helps.

I hated my kitchen when I moved in an old house but didn't have a lot of money to do it with. Please see my kitchen post. I love my kitchen now!

A growing trend that I have noticed lately is taking cabinets of different styles, putting them together & then painting them all one color to make cohesive look. Here's an example... https://www.pinterest.com/pin/127719339406402144/ For the cabinets you already have if you want to change the look...I would go w/ something simple. You can change them to a shaker style by adding trim. If you don't want the smooth middle part of the door you can add beadboard wallpaper before adding the trim. I would take out the trash can & replace it w/ 2 tall 5 shelf narrow cabinets One cabinet can store your kitchen equipment such as mixer stand, crock pot, or waffle maker. The other cabinet can be for your bulk or dry grocery items This will give you more space in the cabinets for other smaller equipment, pots & pans or dinnerware.

I would start by taking down all the cabinets. Find the studs in the wall & put up shelves. A 5" shelf just above the stove for spices you will use during cooking. Just above that one put another shelf (12"-18" wide) the length of the wall to the frig for the microwave, other kitchen appliances, plates, etc. I would put 2 more shelves above those up to the ceiling for things you want to display in your kitchen but rarely use on a daily basis. That way, it will get'em all up outa your way but still be nice on display. You can also use the spice shelf or the 2nd shelf for your cooking utensils & stuff as well. Hope this helps. :)

I would paint it all out in one colour 1st and add hardware, and live with it for a while, before removing anything. You may end up loving it. If you start taking things down, you may regret it. I would paint it all white or a warm off-white. Alternatively, if you love colour and plan on putting a patterned rug or valance/curtain nearby, you could choose 1 lighter/medium colour for your wall and another from the same pattern for your cabinets. You will be amazed by the difference. You could also add mouldings to the doors if you don't like the slab doors, but I would personally start with just primer, paint and knobs/handles.

Figure out what you want to do first -- replace everything? make it look better? Figure out what budget you have to do this. Are you doing the work or hiring someone? The most inexpensive thing that you can do to make this all look cohesive is paint everything the same color. Use cabinet paint - Arm and Hammer, I believe, at Menards, Home Depot, or a store like that. Not regular paint. It has a primer in it. Take the doors off first. You don't have to replace the hardware if you can't afford to and if it's working fine. Just paint it. You can use any color that you like. I have spray-painted some but you can brush paint it as well - use paint for metal. If everything's the same color, you're going to like it a lot better. Not sure that I would use white unless you LOVE white. You already have a lot of white with appliances and a very light-colored wall. Find a color that you like and make it all the same color - you'll love it and it's much cheaper than changing everything before you are really ready to.
