It will work, but you will need a strong adhesive...vinyl plank is kind of heavy. If you have large temperature swings you make have issues with expansion, but the glue should help with that.
Sounds great to me! I have seen others do it too, it was done in herringbone pattern and was beautiful! Need to attach deeper than the wall paper tho....not just glue to the paper or it will come down before long
wallpaper will eventually peel. Vinyl flooring on a wall? If you want a wood look, use real wood. It will look expensive but doesn't have to be. Lumber yard and get dog eared fencing. Run a sander or hard bristle over it to avoid splinters. Use screws to attach. Come up with your own design.
You would need to use some heavy duty adhesive to make it stay on the walls...which means it would be very difficult to remove it if you ever change your mind. Try using a wood-print wallpaper instead. There are many new peel and stick wallpaper designs available now.
I've seen it done, but I think it is more work than just using a faux shiplap option. Purchasing thin boards and having them cut down at your local box store might be a better option.
My vinyl planks are very heavy, I would opt for some lighter weight materials.
Love the concept but I wouldn't put anything over wallpaper, especially in a room that can get moist. You could be asking for disaster if the paper starts to pull free.
