How can I upgrade my weird kitchen cabinets?

These cabinets are driving me crazy! One side of the cabinet has an extension attached to it so you always have to open the right cabinet side first. Is there anything I can do to upgrade or DIY to make them normal? If I remove, there will just be a gap. Any suggestions would be helpful. THX

All cabinet doors have these extensions on the left side. Year built 1999.

That is why the wood is there, b/c of the gap.

Remove the door and the extension and replace with either a full new door or one which has glass in it.

Thanks! Any photos for the door with glass in it?

This was actually a door style option, at one time...I suppose the thinking was that most people are right handed, but the logic escapes me.

You'd need to replace the doors or go with open shelving, to get some peace of mind.

Terrible design. Based on theory right hand door would be opened first. You can remove the extension strip. Close the doors and measure the gap. Then cut the strip one inch wider than the gap. Glue and nail it centered to the bottom and top of the cabinet.
