What are some attractive ways to redo glass kitchen cabinets?

I've had glass cabinet doors for many years and need a change. What are some options for decorating the glass so you cannot see into the cabinet?

I would just apply a decorative film--they cling to the glass but can be easily removed later, so they don't affect the resale value if you ever decide to put your home on the market. (I think your cabinets are beautiful, by the way.) They come in opaque and translucent looks, patterns, and even in colorful stained glass.

You can choose from a variety of specialty window films at this website: https://www.decorativefilm.com/

I'm studying all the great options everyone was so helpful to submit and I'm taking a serious look at the window films you suggested. Looks very easy & beautiful. Thanks so much for the link! 🙂

there is a spray paint for glass that gives it a frosted look. You can spray the entire glass, it will then be semi opaque. Or you can tape off a design, spray over it and then remove tape. Or use a stencil pattern.

At Xmas time I spray snowflake stencils on my glass doors,,,, so If you mask off the surrounding wood on the back side of each glass door (inside glass) and then use a flat or shine white spraycan paint in any color, that might work. The paint comes off pretty easily with a razer blade & windex when you tire of it. Test a small spot with a shot of paint, let dry then razor off if you want to test it! OR I am seeing where vintage floral fabric is being used on the sides of vintage cabinets, inside drawers and back wall of china cabinets. Just use a thin layer of gesso but try to keep the glue off the wood and adhear to the back of the glass area on the door. The only problem with this is that it will look very busy which might drive you crazy. Maybe someone out there has a better process! Just thinking!!

You can use contact paper, frosted glass spray or they sell a stained glass contact paper that would look really nice. Also they now have a sea glass spray paint for glass that would be pretty. You could take the glass out and replace it with chicken wire or fabric. Hope this helps.

I know you dont want to see through the doors but I took out the glass on mine and put in small square pattern mesh wire similar to chicken wire. The square like pattern mesh looks more vintage & I purchased it at Ho Depot in a roll. The tabs that hold the glass in will hold the mesh just fine. I love the look! good luck

I like the clear glass look. However, I would find items to put in the cabinets that are the same color. If, for example, you choose blue you could use different colors of blue. And the same with any color. And you could wallpaper the back and paint the sides to go along with items in the cabinets. Certainly, if you want them to be more opaque go with the spray paint or frosted window film. And, you know the chicken wire is a great idea even though see through. But, you could add fabric behind it to give some color and cover the items you have in the cabinets. Very French Farm house. Use the tiny little rods so you can take them down and wash them. I used little wooden dows once. I used screw in cup hooks and laid them in those tweaking them to hold the dows a bit secure. Have fun whatever you do.

i have cut out the cabinets in 3 of my houses and replaced the wood with glass, and it goes with the frame design as is. (1950s ? ) I would go with the fabric inside curtain idea because it's changeable in a flash. Frosted glass can look nice, but anything etched is permanent, or hard to change. Just my 2 cents.

What you have is a very unusual cupboard design, you have a very pretty moulding and trim and curved wood at the top of the doors. IMHO, the problem is not the glass but the way you have "styled" the interiors. Your dishes should be some raised, some cups hung, some neat stacks, some on "lifts" You have something that can be a real eye catcher. I would not cover the glass.

Go to a glass company and look at all of the different opaque glass they have available. Another option, especially since the cabinets are painted is to cut some thin plywood to use as inserts in place of the existing glass. You could paint the inserts to match the doors or you could be creative in using other colors for the inserts, or if you are an artist you could paint designs on the inserts.
