What paint color would look nice in my kitchen?

I just tore off wallpaper in my kitchen. What color would look nice to paint? Should I leave the chair rail on the wall? If so, should I paint the wall above it and below two different colors? Should I paint the chairrail? Please help!

Anything neutral - cream, taupe, beige. The white tile floors and white counter tops will pop out if you go dark creating a can of worms for your project. You know that old saying one thing leads to another.

So much brown..... If you are leaving your cabinets, trim moldings and doors wood, please don't use yellow with this shade of wood and I wouldn't recommend any more brown or any variation of it. My suggestion would be to remove the chair rail and pick a light to medium shade of sage green. It would be a lovely, fresh color to enhance the color of your wood and it won't compete with your floor, counter top, backsplash etc.

Did you get all the residue off the walls? (I used white vinegar with some water ina spray bottle and wipe down all the walls? I see in the picture some backing residue. Anyhow- what is your favorite colors? You need something bright and fun to bring out the wood and give yourkitchen somepersonality... or something subdued like a pale sage green or even blue gray. Your handles could be changed (or use spray paint to change the look) and that would update the cabinets. Even changing the valence to something lighter and brighter and you could pick a color in the new fabric valence. What is the wall color in the rest of your house and the adjoining rooms? what about color for accessories such as pillows and curtains? Your colors should flow and pick up one color from each adjoining room to keep the eye flowing. Does this make sense? I would also try to eliminate cluttter on the counters which will really make your kitchen look larger. Can you fit a rolling island or cart for extra counterspace?

Your cabinets look similar in color to mine. After MUCH research on the best color to coordinate with the cabinets (and to change from the dark green walls I had and actually loved) I went with Glidden's "Buttercup". I LOVE it & get a ton of compliments on the color. Of course, I was seeking to honor the year my house was built (1942) and to coordinate with my retro style. Sooo....Buttercup walls, red accents, along with my black & yellow toned checkerboard floors. I say consider what "look" you are going for & love to live with, what coordinates with the rest of your home (or will you be changing that up, too?). Then bring home either paint samples or paint chips and place on the walls (or tape to your cabinets). Look at these for DAYS (and days). Get the opinion of friends/family that have a good sense of decorating style and see which one they pick (without giving away your choice first). I feel your pain...you don't want to mess this up! Deep breath. Don't feel rushed. It's all gonna be OK.

I like pale (very pale, just a hint ) teal or blue. You can add cushions or curtains that have the color you choose and browns to bring it all together.

To me, your chair rail looks ok. If that door were to the outdoors, I'd suggest keeping it, as I have a jacket hook on mine, and when the door is flung too far open, it marks up the wall. The rail would prevent that. Notice your tiles seem to be a neutral color ( love your cabinets too)...what I've done in ours, is to keep all the "biggies" neutral ( in every room) and then pop with color - pillows, artwork - or seasonal accents such as autumn leaves, Easter decor, etc. Good luck, have fun choosing your favorites!

Your kitchen looks rather dark. I think it would also help to paint the units, perhaps cream. Keep the walls a light colour also but try to create a flow into the adjoining rooms. So consider what colours you hope to use for them too.

Maybe you can accent the stainless steel and make the room look more modern by painting it grey. Or if you want to have a more traditional look, you can paint it a creamy yellow. My oak kitchen is painted yellow.

Don't use yellow look up the psychology of color. MY friend painted her kitchen a bright neon green, semi gloss, then she did the cabinets in a white gloss. When she opened the can of paint I thought INSANE! We painted it and do you know it is so good with white cabinets it is almost a neutral. Any stainless will look good with this as well.

I have the same cabinets in my kitchen. I just painted it a warm peach color, and made a valance in a faded peach and reddish color, so I could add reddish highlights around the kitchen (to match my kitchen aid mixer lol!) I also stained the accent wood to match the cabinets.

Well, what colors have you used in the rest of your house? Coordinate with them. Or take a look in your closet - what color do you wear the most? That might be the best for you.

Take note of colors in any adjoining rooms. If the dining room is staying the same, you should try to co-ordinate with that room. could go to a shade or 2 lighter. Are you leaving the color on the lower half below the chair rail? You also have a valance over the window where your sink is. There appears to be a design with some colors. If you like any one of those colors, you could use wall paint in one of those colors. The lighter and brighter the better....

General finishes has some super easy fantastic gel stains. You could stain the cabinets a rich darker brown then they wouldn't look dated. with that and the light tiles, countertop, and flooring color wise the sky is the limit. They have sample cans now for a coupla bucks. you can paint a good size swathch on the wall to get a good feel for a color. Don't rely on those tiny paint chips.

I would take off the chair rail and paint the walls a very light grey (almost white) and add accessories to liven things up. If you want to goo all out...paint the cabinets and top too : )

These are my wall colors, my house was recently remodeled a few months ago, the contractor admitted that he thought I was nuts choosing these colors, but he loved them after they dried and everything came together

Consider the palest of grey as Moxie suggests, its neutral, and goes with every thing, I would remove the chair rails, they make small spaces seem smaller, Sandy Hartnett,does also make a good point, whats your favourite colour?

I also would use a soft gray, and since it appears there is not a lot of light, perhaps lemon yellow and lime green accents would brighten the look, look fresh and clean, and blend well with the cabinets and the gray.

Dove grey...loose the chair rail. Just know that removing the rail may pull the drywall with it! ( been there 😬). Better able to place art, etc., without a chair rail. Good luck!

I usually look at the overall color scheme of the rooms closest to the kitchen and go a shade lighter to accent and compliment them and it all looks so well put together.

Paint the kitchen a nice, light color that you find pleasing. If you paint the blades of your ceiling fan the same color as the ceiling, the fan will sort of "disappear," and your room will look brighter.

I would definitely stay away from warm pinkish colors. Cooler hues will bring balance to the space.I would look into Behr Mineral, Revere pewter, and Behr Silverdrop. Also you need to look into painting the chair rail and eventually the trim and grout lines white.

I think sticking with a neutral is a good way to go. That way you can add and change accessory colors at will :-) Grant Beige by Benjamin Moore is one nice grayish green neutral that'll work with your cabinet colors and the stainless appliances. You didn't say if you're changing the flooring but if it stays, I think a color in the gray/green family will work nicely. As to the chair rail....I personally would take it off and paint the wall all one color. It helps keep the room looking bigger, less chopped up and more modern. But that's my opinion ;-) I also like to paint the ceiling the same color as the walls...as long as the color chosen isn't too dark. It helps 'erases' all the lines than can break up the visual continuity in a small room. Best of luck! Kitchen redos with paint are so much fun! :-)

Hey! Thanks, I really like it..it's Valspar "Peach Frenzy" 2004-2A. I had another color, but it turned out much darker than I liked, so I bought new paint, took a picture of the wall half painted with the new color and sent it to Valspar, and they reimbursed me for the original cans!
