I did my backsplash with 12 x 12 stainless steel stickable tiles from Lowes 3 years ago. They are very easy to clean and have been no problem at all...plus they look great!
you might caulk the area where you have horizontal butting up to vertical..... when the counter gets wet you don't want to allow a lot of water to seep into that joint.
