I have a fake brick backsplash in kitchen that is impossible to remove. I want to find something to cover it. I Already painted it and I still don't like it.

Here is a partial list of ideal surfaces for Smart Tiles: painted gypsum (the paint must have been applied at least 21 days before), smooth ceramic tiles backsplash, smooth glass tiles backsplash, wall panel (acrylic), wall linoleum, mirror, wallpaper (if some corners are peeling, just peel them off and install Smart Tiles over them). Here is a partial list of dusty and porous surfaces that are not recommended: stucco wall, brick wall, stone wall, unfinished wall (gypsum or plaster), unpainted plywood.

I think the best idea would be to glue .25" plywood to the brick with adhesive glue, prime the plywood and then do the tiles. That would be a smooth foundation for the tiles to stick to.

Lowes and Home Depot have beautiful peel and stick backsplash tile now.
  • I agree with Susan. Even if they do stick there's no guarantee that you won't still see the brick pattern underneath. If you don't want to deal with cutting lumber then maybe use foam board or even poster board. Just something that gives you a flat surface to adhere the tiles to. Good luck!

If you can't get the faux brick off, cover it with quarter inch cement backer board that is made specifically for tile. You screw it into the wall and then you can adhere tile to it. Plenty of how-to videos on YouTube.
