this weekend we tackled the 2nd half of our kitchen reno....
We started with removing a small wall which we discovered was never really attached and had 2"x 4' improperly cut and just hanging behind the sheet rock.
next we broke up the floor tile they used to tile the counter tops,..we discovered some never had grout and all of this was put on top of formica...
The more we demo'd the more we discovered horrible issues, from black mold to sheet rock and board rotted away by water that leaked following the non grouted tiles to the lower portion of the counter top and dripping inside the pony wall and wall near the sink.
The cost was an additional 75.00 as we purchased an additional 12 inch base cabinet...everything else from the sink to faucet and cabinets, and counter top is part of the initial cost of what this reno was going to cost, $1,000.00.
We had the china hutch to convert to a kitchen island...
We also have the lumber and bypass barn door hardware for when we are ready to build the barn doors.
the shape of the kitchen before demo
the wall that that blocked light coming in and closed the area off was coming down....we had 3 electrical plugs to relocate that was in this wall and running inside the pony wall (which also had all the water damage
this was supporting the sink and tons of floor tile
the sink butted up to this and water channeled to the back, into the wall and pony wall
ready to take out the pony wall
black mold.....after removing and cleaning entire area with a solution for this...we were ready to continue on with the kitchen demo

we discovered the drain pipe was moved but the hole was never closed up,so any rodent could easily get in
the pony wall is gone
we discovered the wall here was soaked and crumbling
and of course more mold to deal with
we installed the new cabinets, attached the counter top,put the new sink and faucet in,re-attached the garbage disposal and put the dishwasher back....
The following day I applied the backsplash...
we also made the kitchen island (instructions for that http://www.hometalk.com/diy/build/furniture/c... )
our last step is to make the barn doors for the pantry we made....
