We completed this project about 2 years ago and it occurred to me that I never put a post together on it… better late than never, right? I’ll try to keep this short and sweet, this project did take some time, but wasn’t overly complicated.

We started with a pretty standard (and ugly) laundry room.

I wanted something that was pretty, but also more functional. The absolute must haves on my list were a countertop over the washer and dryer and a shelf to cover the plumber’s box. We also wanted to do this project budget-friendly, but there were also a few splurges.

Here is an overview of the project:

  • remove the open shelves and replace with cabinets (with smaller open shelves in the middle)
  • add the countertop and base cabinet with stainless steel sink and pull out garbage can. We made the countertop out of wood and stained with a combination of black and gray stain.
  • shiplap on the wall
  • replace the florescent light with something more decorative
  • Cover the plumber’s box
  • add decorative peel and stick tile over the existing
  • replace the door with something more aesthetically pleasing. We found this old door at the habitat restore store and refinished it.
  • paint the beige walls with Harbor Gray by Benjamin Moore and add decorative accessories

Hi, I'm a little confused. What is a plumber's box? The only reason I can think of putting anything there is to cover the water spickets which don't look bad to me. It seemed awfully large running over the top of both washer and dryer. Otherwise I love the room, especially the decal on the door. Open 24 hours, indeed. lol

Where did you find the light? I absolutely love this room.

What is behind you, as you are stepping in the door? Not knowing that, it feels like the door should be hinged on the other side. Aren't you taking extra steps to walk around the door? The transformation is magnificent! I had a laundry tub just as ugly/functional/ugly for many years. I also had no shelving for folding. Still don't. I'm just happy that I'm now doing laundry in a heated area. Guess I have low standards. 🤔
