  • Ok I was going to suggest installing shelving, but since it is a rental, let's go another way. See the 3 tier shelf you have there? Replace it with something wider and taller. Something that uses the space on that wall more efficiently. They do make snap together plastic ones that do hold a decent amount of weight safely. Find a utility shelf in chrome or metal (easy to clean) that will fill the space better and hold all the stuff sitting on the floor. If you want to dress it up, you can fashion a curtain across it to pretty the area up. Then I am positive you can sit the laundry hamper next to the washer (or stash in a closet elsewhere) and give you more floor space and easier access. If you are in no rush, you can make the rounds of second hand shops too. You can always paint to make it clean and pretty.

I would buy some kind of large closet to store all the pails and buckets (or the garage?) Then can you build a shelf over the washer and dryer to neatly stack all the bottles and containers? (maybe downsize some of them) I would take everything out of there, paint the walls, change out the curtains, and get some kind of shelving unit to help you organize.

I count 6 buckets. Do you NEED 6 buckets?? I would keep only one or two. Make one of the buckets your grab-and-go cleaning kit. I clean professionally and I only keep a feather duster, window cleaning solution, small can of bar keeper's, soap scum remover and a few clean rags.

Another thing, there's nothing wrong with putting things on the wall in a rental. Just fill holes with spackle upon move out. I've been on both sides of the table as a renter and as a manager.

I agree with Naomie, If you are not using the door measure from the wall to the appliance next to the door and you can get nice plastic shelves that are 4 or 5 high that will hold and organize your items if you still need additional room you can get a narrow plastic shelf that you can put from the larger shelf and put if from that shelf to the doorway and put less used items in that corner.

i agree with a taller shelving unit - Home Depot sells metal shelving that actually looks nice and then you can add a basket to each shelf and throw all the stuff in the baskets. That will help it not look so cluttered.
